Changes to the original firmware is the same as with 280-mv-sub with the following additions:
For DP-500:
- telnet server
- new KML portal instead of Tinystocks - movimu (aka Craig's portal) (just to see something new). Press 0 to get to Tinystocks from there.
- new KML connection and parse error handling - menu where you can choose another KML site
For DP-508:
- telnet server
- Dracula's ftp server
- new KML portal instead of Tinystocks - movimu (aka Craig's portal) (just to see something new). Press 0 to get to Tinystocks from there.

I got reports that my 2.8.0-mv-sub for DP-450 hangs on FF/RW. To solve this
problem I had to remove the clock from this firmware.
New version is available from the download page.

Fixed a bug in 8859-8 firmware. If your player does not recognize any ISO9660 CD,
you should download the firmware again and update the player.
8.1.2004 - 2.8.0-mv-sub
Differences to original 2.8.0:
- national characters in many encodings (also in filenames)
- tiny or bold font available
- fixed KiSS bug with breaking subtitle line into two in the middle of
the word - now it is being broken at the space character nearest to
the middle of the line
- macrovision disabled (Armagedon's patch)
- fixed subtitles display time
- subtitles display time configurable by user (while watching a movie press
SEARCH on the remote and then 02 to 09 to set display time to 2 to 9
seconds. Don't use SEARCH 01 until you can read right to left. Your
settings are valid up to the end of the movie.)
- reversing subtitles for people reading right to left (press SEARCH 01 to
swich this feature on/off). Treat this feature rather like proof of
concept - it reverses whole lines of text, regardles of their content
(Hebrew text, numbers, Latin text). If you want this feature to work like
it should, please send me a C function reversing a line of text properly.
- automagical subtitle file finder - file with subtitles does not
have the same name as movie file. For
example: abcde.avi and axyz.txt will be matched. The longer common prefix
takes the precedence to the shorter one, so ab.sub will be preferred to
axyz.txt in our example. Subtitle and movie files still have to be in the
same directory and have to have one of extensions used by KiSS
(utf, UTF, sub, SUB, srt, SRT, smi, SMI, txt, TXT, ssa, SSA, aqt, AQT,
jss, JSS). This feature applies to CDs (and probably hard drive in
DP508) only, not to PC-Link.
- if the previous algorithm (automagical subtitle file finder) doesn't
find the subtitle file, any subtitle file will be opened
- LCD clock for DP-450 (the author of the clock is
AaronL, I have only modified setting of the clock).
To set a clock play any divx movie, press "SEARCH", and enter 99:hh:mm.
For example to set 13:45 press SEARCH, 99:13:45 and press ENTER.
Time will be displayed on LCD when player is turned off by remote.
Removed due to FF/RW hangups.
- you can use DP-500 ntp clock even without internet connection - just set
it as described above and select GMT+0 timezone in setup menu

11.11.2003 SUBTITLES BUG FIX
Fixed subtitles bugs:
- every subtitle is displayed for 6 seconds (if there is no next one to be displayed). That means vplayer type subtitles started to work.
- subtitles were cut on ']' character. Now it is replaced by ')', which is not so harmful :)
Firmware with theses bug fixed has "-sub" in the filename.

I have ported the newest UDF filesystem (known also as direct cd) to the KiSS firmware (udf version 0.9.7).
I've already received some positive reports on it.
I'll wait a few days and add this support to all national versions for all players.

Bold font versions for the following encodings:
ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-2, ISO-8859-3, ISO-8859-4, Windows-1250, Windows-1251.
Cyrillic version (windows-1251) additionally supports full win-1251 cyrillic character set,
including Ukrainian and Byelorussian characters ("not bold" version includes just Russian cyrillic).
